Megalithic Routes

Thursday, 21.11. 2024 Megalithic Routes in Aosta, Area Megalithica, MegaMuseuo

Ursula and Bernd from the office met with Stella and Marco from the site and museum today.

The megalithic area of Saint-Martin-de-Corléans (Italian: Area megalitica di Saint-Martin-de-Corléans) is an archaeological site near Aosta in the Aosta Valley and has one of the largest accumulations of megalithic sites in Italy, covering an area of over one hectare. These were discovered in 1969 during the construction of a residential building near the church. During the excavation, 22 layers were removed up to six metres below the current valley floor. The dolmens with stone platforms, menhirs and statue menhirs of Saint Martin de Corléans are located near two Alpine passes and several metal deposits and date back to the 3rd millennium BC. After a tour of the magnificent museum, the discussion centred on intensifying future collaboration.

The MegaMuseo in Aosta would like to position itself as a beacon for other megalithic sites in the region in the future. This fits in perfectly with the new strategy of Megalithic Routes. We urgently need such committed members.

Many thanks to Stella and Marco.
