Sobrarbre-Pirineos UNESCO Global Geopark celebrates the European day of Megalithic Culture in Sobrarbe in the last weekend op April 2024
Sobrarbe-Pirineos UNESCO Global Geopark joins Causses du Quercy (France) and Famenne-Ardenne (Belgium) geoparks to launch the 1st Digital Photography Contest under the theme “Megaliths as landmarks in our geoparks.”
Open to non-professional photographers residing in Belgium, France or Spain, the competition seeks to showcase the remarkable megalithic heritage and the variety and richness of the landscapes of the territories of the organizing geoparks.
With the theme “Megaliths as Landmarks in our geoparks”, the competition aims to explore the intricate relationship between megalithic structures, landscapes and local cultures.
Participants are invited to submit digital photographs that capture various aspects of megalithic heritage, including menhirs, dolmens, stone circles, cromlechs and related topics such as research, science and conservation. Submitted photographs will be displayed on the official websites and social media platforms of the three organizing geoparks.
The entry period starts on April 28, 2024 and ends on June 30, 2024, at 00:00. The competition features a single category with a limit of five entries per photographer.
The first prize consists of a 4 or 5-day stay for two people in one of the three organizing geoparks, including accommodation, breakfast, dinner and programmed activities.
The second and third prize winners will receive a basket of local products from one of the organizing geoparks, valued at 150 euros.
Sobrarbe, thanks to its rich megalithic heritage, has been part of the Council of Europe Cultural Itinerary Megalithic Routes since 2015, and within the framework of this international program it organizes different activities and actions related to its megalithic heritage. The UNESCO Global geoparks of Famenne-Ardenne (Belgium) and Causses du Quercy (France) also have an outstanding megalithic heritage, and in this edition, they join Sobrarbe-Pirineos in the celebration of the European Day of Megalithic Culture through a cooperation and exchange action.
