MEGALITHIC LANDSCAPE INTEREST ROUTES PROJECT in Spain
“Creation of a landscape interest itinerary around the megalithic landscape in Sobrarbe: Megalithic Routes. Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe“.
Last April, the Department of Territorial Planning, Mobility And Housing, Government of Aragon (Spain), by means of the ORDER VMV/219/2022, dated 22nd February, announced grants to carry out, during the year 2022, of actions related to the development of the Special Directive on Demographic Policy and against Depopulation charged to the Territorial Cohesion Fund by local entities, for the creation of itineraries and unique viewpoints of scenic interest to which the counties could apply with projects with a total cost of less than 10,000 euros, with 100% of the expenditure being eligible for funding.
The final decision was published in September and the region of Sobrarbe is receiving the total aid requested, which amounts to 9,918.37 euros.
Our project proposes the creation of an itinerary of scenic interest, as a product of ecotourism, based on the megalithic heritage of the territory. It envisages the creation of scenic itineraries around the megalithic landscape in Sobrarbe, interconnecting different megalithic sites through the network of traditional paths.
Under this project, we are working in the surroundings of megaliths located in the north of Aragón, in the municipalities of Aínsa-Sobrarbe, Bárcabo, Boltaña, La Fueva, Tella-Sin and Plan, for which different steps are being taken in the environment of the Dolmens from Tella, Almazorre, Balluals, Mesón de Arcusa and Paules de Sarsa, and also around the Circles of Yermos del Cementerio and Labasar.
The project aims at strengthening our ecotourism products based on the megalithic heritage in the territory, diversifying the local economy and promoting the economic and social use of our cultural heritage, based on the formula for heritage and landscape management offered by the Cultural Routes programme of the Council of Europe, of which the Comarca de Sobrarbe is a member through the Cultural Route “Megalithic Routes”.
This project is included in the action of the Strategic Plan for Rural, Heritage and Tourism Development in the Comarca de Sobrarbe, codified as 1.3.10. Development of research, intervention and dissemination projects in our heritage assets, whose relevance has been recognized by national and international figures and related to the SDGs 4, 11 and 17.
