European Day of Megalithic Culture in Wildeshausen
On the occasion of the European Day of Megalithic Culture, Dr. Julia Koch, Managing Director of the Prehistoric Center Wildeshausen, will accompany you on a bicycle tour to well-known and lesser-known megalithic tombs west of Wildeshausen. Numerous burial sites have been preserved close together along the Aue river. The planned turning point of the tour is the “Heidenopfertisch” (Heathen Sacrificial Table). This year, the day is dedicated to the architects of the megalithic tombs.
These monumental structures were built in the 4th millennium BCE by the first farmers in Northern Germany. During the tour, the lecturer will share insights at various stops about the latest research on these people and their way of life. The total route is approximately 35 km.
Children and teenagers under 16 can participate free of charge, but prior registration by phone with the VHS Wildeshausen is required.
