On horseback past all the dolmens in the Netherlands
You don’t always have to go far from home for adventure, Karin Olfert knows. She will soon set off on a very special trip. On her horse Zula, she will ride past all 53 megalithic tombs in the Netherlands. A trip of some 350 km long spread over 11 days.
”Normally I look for more rugged areas in my holidays. I prefer mountain ranges and especially Scandinavia. On multi-day treks, I completely relax, especially if I have my dog or horse with me. I had no concrete holiday plans for this summer and suddenly this idea came to me a few weeks ago… riding on horseback past all the hunebeds in the Netherlands. I work at the Hunebedcentrum as an activities coordinator so it’s not really surprising that I’m going to do something with hunebeds… Apart from my work now also in my holiday! I hope I’ll finally remember where exactly all 53 are, that will save me having to look them up in the future”, says Karin. She spends the night with acquaintances or campsites with meadows.
With a small tent on the back, the horse and rider will leave at the hunebed in Balloo on 18 July. If all goes according to plan, she will finish at the hunebeds in Rolde on 28 July. You can follow her adventure on instagram at:@1paard53hunebedden
