New archaeological museum in Steinzeitpark Dithmarschen, Albersdorf in Schleswig-Holstein
From spring 2023, the new museum the “Stone Age House” will offer a comprehensive and experiential insight into the Stone Age of Schleswig-Holstein. The new museum building in the Stone Age Park Dithmarschen will be an important addition to the current 40-hectare open-air museum/park. The “Stone Age House” is intended to be a place of experience and learning, a presentation place for current research findings and also an active scientific institution. The institution also aims to continue as an attractive leisure facility for locals, visitors and tourists.
In its external shape and greyness, the new building is inspired by the flints found abundantly in the area. On the inside, the underside of the roof has the typical shape of stone-age wooden houses. It consists of two functional parts: the internal part (with administration and workshop) and the public part with the exhibition, a multipurpose room called the “Stone Age multipurpose room” and the “Stone Age laboratory” for museum education. There is also a special exhibition area and a large storage and service area.
